We are delighted that you are using our app. Protecting your privacy is our highest priority. This app was built with a „privacy-first“ approach. Below, we detail exactly what data is handled, how it is structured, and how we protect your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Data Controller
The entity responsible for data processing in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Sick App Developers GmbH Messeler-Park-Straße 85 64291 Darmstadt Germany Email: simplebible@sickappdevelopers.com
2. 100% Local Storage (No User Accounts)
We do not require you to create an account to use the core features of the app. Your personal reading data is stored entirely on your local device (using local databases like sqflite and shared_preferences). It is never transmitted to our servers.
Reading Progress, Bookmarks, and App Preferences
- What it is: Numerical indices, boolean values, and text markers saved locally.
- Example:
{"lastReadBook": "Genesis", "chapter": 1, "isDarkMode": true, "bookmarks": [1, 5, 12]} - Usage: Strictly used to remember where you left off, store your favorite verses, and apply your visual preferences (language, font, theme). Because this data never leaves your phone, we do not process Personally Identifiable Information (PII) regarding your reading habits.
3. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions (Data Processors)
To offer premium themes and audio features, we process purchases via external providers. We do not process or have access to direct payment information (such as credit card details). Payments are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Subscription Status & App User ID (RevenueCat)
- What it is: An anonymous identifier and digital purchase receipts/entitlements.
- Example:
$RCAnonymousID:8f7d6s9a8f7d6sandEntitlement: PremiumAudio active - Usage: Transmitted to our data processor, RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), solely to verify your subscription status and unlock premium features within the app.
4. High-Quality Audio Streaming (Firebase Storage / CDN)
If you utilize the premium AI-generated audio chapters, the app must download these .mp3 files from our cloud storage servers.
IP Address
- What it is: The numerical internet protocol address assigned to your device.
- Example:
203.0.113.45 - Usage: When you stream an audio chapter, your IP address is temporarily logged by our Content Delivery Network (Google Cloud / Firebase Storage) to route the requested audio file to your device. This is a technical necessity for internet communication (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – Legitimate Interest) and is not used to track you.
5. Text-To-Speech (Native OS Integration)
We offer a Text-to-Speech (TTS) feature to read verses aloud.
Bible Verse Text
- What it is: The raw text string of the scripture currently on your screen.
- Example:
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." - Usage: This text data is passed directly from the app to your device’s native operating system (Apple iOS or Android) to synthesize the speech. This text is not sent to any external servers or APIs by us.
6. Absolute Privacy Guarantee (No Tracking or Ads)
We are proud to state that this app contains:
- No Advertising: There are no AdMob integrations or third-party ad networks.
- No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, or any behavioral tracking cookies.
- No Authentication: We do not use Firebase Auth or social logins.
Because we do not track your behavior, you will not encounter complex cookie consent banners (such as the App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS).
7. Your Rights as a Data Subject
Under the GDPR, you have rights regarding your personal data. Because the vast majority of your data is stored exclusively on your device, exercising these rights is straightforward:
- Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You can delete all your reading progress, preferences, and bookmarks simply by deleting the app from your device. We do not hold a cloud backup of this data to delete on our end.
- Right of Access & Rectification (Art. 15 & 16 GDPR): As we do not hold your user profile on our servers, we cannot provide or alter this data. You have full control over it directly within the app’s interface.
For any inquiries regarding data protection, or to address issues related to your purchase history (handled via RevenueCat), please contact us at simplebible@sickappdevelopers.com.
