We are honored that you use the Simple Quran app. We believe that your spiritual reading and religious practices are deeply personal, which is why we built this app with a strict privacy-first architecture. Simple Quran does not require user accounts, emails, or passwords. Below, we detail exactly how the app handles data, how it is structured, and how your privacy is protected under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. Data Controller
The entity responsible for data processing in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

2. Locally Stored Data (Strictly On-Device)
All of your reading history and bookmarks are stored completely offline. This data never leaves your physical device, and we, the developers, have zero access to it. It is never uploaded to our servers, shared, or sold.
Reading Progress
- What it is: Numerical indices storing your current position in the text via local databases (SQLite/SharedPreferences).
- Example:

User Bookmarks
- What it is: An array of numerical identifiers saving specific verses.
- Example:
{"bookmarkedVerses": [1, 36, 114]} - Usage: Allows you to quickly navigate to your saved and favorite sections of the text.
App Preferences
- What it is: Text strings and numerical values storing your UI configuration.
- Example:

Data Deletion: You can permanently delete all of this local data at any time simply by uninstalling the app or clearing the app’s data in your device settings.
3. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions (Data Processors)
To manage premium unlocks (such as high-fidelity audio), we process subscriptions via a third-party service. All financial transactions are processed directly and securely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). The app itself never sees, processes, or stores your payment methods, credit card numbers, or billing addresses.
Subscription Data & Device Metadata (RevenueCat)
- What it is: Anonymous App User IDs, digital purchase history/receipts, basic device metadata (OS version, device model), and your IP Address.
- Example:
$RCAnonymousID:xyz123,Entitlement: PremiumAudio,Platform: iOS 17,IP: 198.51.100.x - Usage: This data is transmitted to our service provider, RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA), solely to manage anonymous subscription statuses and validate App Store/Play Store receipts. It does not collect names or emails. The legal basis for this processing is the performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. Cloud Audio Streaming (Google Cloud / Firebase Storage)
If you use the premium AI-generated recitation audio, the app streams these high-fidelity .wav files from our cloud storage.
IP Address and User-Agent
- What it is: The numerical internet protocol address assigned to your device and a basic device identification string.
- Example:
IP: 203.0.113.45,User-Agent: Dalvik/2.1.0 (Linux; U; Android 14; Pixel 8) - Usage: When you tap „play“, your device requests the audio file from Google’s servers. As a strict technical requirement of how the internet works, Google temporarily processes your IP Address and User-Agent to correctly route the audio file back to your device. This is processed under Legitimate Interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to deliver the requested audio content.
5. Device Permissions
To function correctly, the app requests the following permission:
- Internet Access: The app requires an active internet connection strictly to fetch the paywall statuses from RevenueCat and to stream the premium audio files from our cloud servers.
6. Analytics, Telemetry, and Ads (None)
We guarantee that Simple Quran features:
- No Advertising: The app is completely ad-free.
- No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use invasive analytics SDKs, behavioral trackers, or crash reporting tools.
7. Your Rights as a Data Subject
Under the GDPR, you have rights regarding your personal data. Because your data is mostly stored exclusively on your own device, you have immediate control over it:
- Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You can instantly permanently delete your reading history, bookmarks, and preferences by uninstalling the app.
- Right of Access & Rectification (Art. 15 & 16 GDPR): You have full, direct access to view and manage your bookmarks and settings through the app’s interface.
